St Mary and All Saints Church, Droxford

A rural parish church seeking to obtain heritage lottery funding to carry out repairs. The parish Architect and Structural Engineer approached H+R to determine the significance of areas of suspected timber decay at the pre-tender stage.

Work undertaken

H+R worked with personnel on site to achieve pragmatic solutions to gaining access to high level timbers. Minimally destructive drilling and probing techniques were employed to determine condition of vulnerable timbers. Timbers which appeared from ground level to be sound had been structurally decayed by beetle damage. Conversely, timbers which appeared in very poor condition were often confirmed as sound with ample residual strength.

How we solved the problem

H+R gave early warning of issues on-site and expediently provided supporting reports clearly outlining the structures requiring repair or replacement, working in close co-operation with the Structural Engineer.
