October 2019
The Autumn month was no less active than last year with a fascinating spread of projects around the UK
Pip, one of the H+R Rothounds, distinguished herself on the Centenary Square project in Birmingham. The magnificent 1930s municipal bank building is being converted for the University of Birmingham as a central location for community engagement such as an events space, café, meeting rooms and interactive working space. The Art Deco safety deposit box vault is a ‘tour de force’
In Scotland H+R were tasked to undertake a very detailed timber condition investigation of the Ravelin bridge at Fort George. H+R last undertook our investigation of the structure in 2003! Of notable interest was the prosperity of the bitumen outer coating to entrap moisture encouraging decay. Following the re-detailing advice provided by H+R will alleviate this problem
In Cumbria, H+R undertook final snagging and sign-off investigations on behalf of Charles Church at Stone Cross Mansions in Ulverston. This is the culmination of two years of input
For the National Trust in the south-east, specialist penetrating damp investigations were instigated at Nymans. In Hertfordshire an extensive range of surveys were undertaken at Bulbourne Yard which comprises of a set of old historic canalside workshops, offices and dwellings
At the Royal Academy, H+R were pleased to support the Society of Antiquaries as part of the refurbishment of their accommodation
