Return visits to Scotland were undertaken in the month including maintaining the H+R Curator rainwater drainage alarm system at Balnagown Castle. H+R also provided further investigative consultancy at the Scottish National Gallery and also at Ramsay Gardens. The latter is an interesting 1890s tenement building developed by the botanist and urban planner Patrick Geddes. H+R have been advising on its progressive refurbishment for several year
Work continues for several contractor clients at the new Museum of London development centred on the conversion of the old Smithfield Market site. The project is the biggest of its nature in London. Final surveys have been undertaken at the Great Hall of Barts Hospital and work has been completed at Guy’s and St Thomas Hospital. H+R’s involvement at the later has enabled the re-purposing of some late 20th century structures
An interesting challenge has been investigating the 1990s Honourable Artillery Company (HAC) building in the City of London which overlooks the biggest privately owned space in central London
In the North of England, extensive non-destructive investigations were undertaken at The Citadels, the court complex in Carlisle, at Blackburn College, at Arup’s main office in the Blythe Valley and at Lancaster Castle. In addition, specialist insurance investigations have been undertaken in Northern Ireland
A new surveyor joined the company supporting the Oxford office. Ellen Wise has had an interesting and varied career to date including at Acanthus Clews and working as a restorer of stringed instruments
