Spring is emerging at Netley with Primroses abounding and we’ll shortly witness the explosion of Cowslips and Bluebells having now seen the Snowdrops past their best. Come May and June the wildflower meadows at Netley will be covered with the many species of native orchids we have
Dragging us away from the natural world meant intensive surveying work on a range of challenging projects including the Ruskin School of Art in Oxford, the Palais de Danse in St Ives for the Tate, the V&A and also the Horology store at the British Museum. What a splendid selection of a certain niche of our client base. On the more commercial front, a lot of effort went into the very dilapidated Nightingale and Gothic mill buildings in Birmingham and a large redevelopment in New Bond Street. A particular challenge was the Princess Theatre in Torquay where Spring Tides were resulting in sea water ingress to the back of house, H+R surveyors could only access the relevant voids at the lowest point of the tide at dawn
A major project was the Old Falcon Inn in St Neots. The building has a fascinating history dating back to the 15th Century and now forms part of one of the Government’s Future High Street schemes
It was gratifying to see the completion of AHMM’s new headquarters for the London Borough of Tower Hamlets created by the restoration of the former Royal London Hospital. H+R were appointed by Bouygues to provide specialist support throughout the three year contract period
H+R were also pleased to see the launch of the celebrations of the restoration of one of Britain’s greatest Victorian buildings, The Town Hall in Rochdale. It is one of the finest manifestations of civic pride in the North of England. The designer was William Henry Crossland whose most spectacular creation in Southern England is the Royal Holloway College – another H+R project
