June 2024
‘Juneary’ has been a factor in the workload this month with heavy rain affecting buildings and their materials. There has been an increase in enquiries relating to the vulnerability of cross laminated timber. H+R’s careful yet incisive investigative approach repeatedly pays dividends to our clients, who have the advantage of being able to plan forward with clarity and confidence in relation to remedial strategy
It was a pleasure to attend the 50th anniversary celebration of Alan Baxter and Associates with whom H+R have worked for 30 years or more. They are leaders in the field of Structural Engineering in historic context
We were pleased to witness the completion of the refurbishment of Brighton’s Corn Exchange. The building was originally built as a stables for George Ⅳ’s adjacent Royal Pavilion which was one of H+R’s first projects back in the early 1980s. The timber structures are very impressive and still form one of the widest single-span timber framed buildings in the UK. Congratulations to Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios
Interesting projects in the month included The Cultural Quarter in Peterhead, Berwick Barracks, the old Leeds Grammar School, an immigration detention centre housed in an old MoD complex, Surrey County Hall, the University of Peterborough, The Charterhouse in the City of London and Chelsea Harbour Design Centre amongst many others
