Arran Clephane
Intern Building Pathologist
BSc (Hons) Building Surveying Undergraduate

Background
Arran is currently studying an undergraduate degree in Building Surveying at Northumbria University. He previously completed a foundation year in Civil and Structural Engineering at Dundee University before making the change to surveying as he wanted to pursue a more practical and hands-on career.
He has previously undertaken work experience with Bury Council Building Control and a Lancashire Civil Engineering consultancy where he has been exposed to Building Regulations compliance and specialist surveying equipment. This work experience combined with his academic experience including Construction Technology, Property Surveying, Science and Engineering and AutoCAD, have provided Arran with the necessary foundation skills to flourish during his time with H+R.
Following graduation Arran would like to specialise in late 19th Century buildings of the Gothic revival period, but also aspires to one day survey Gigg Lane, the home stadium of his beloved Bury F.C.
Areas of Practice
Arran joined H+R in 2024 as an Intern Building Pathologist as part of an optional industry year within his undergraduate program. In a supporting role, Arran primarily investigates damp and timber decay issues in both modern and heritage buildings and assists the team with the production of professional reports and drawings. While working at H+R, he is also focusing on his dissertation into the marketing of anti-mould paints and the improvement of guidance to consumers, especially in identifying and remediating the root cause of the mould in a domestic setting
