Ethan Silvey
Intern Building Pathologist
BSc (Hons) Building Surveying Undergraduate

Background
Ethan is pursuing a Building Surveying degree at the University of the West of England. He previously worked as a roofer in his family business and holds a Business and Management degree. This combination of practical construction experience and business knowledge provides a strong foundation for his surveying career.
However, Ethan’s primary passion during this period was martial arts, where he trained in California alongside world champions. An injury in 2023 ended this pursuit but marked the beginning of a new chapter and his passion for building surveying. Over the past two years, Ethan has gained valuable experience working for a small surveying practice while completing his university studies.
After discovering the placement year opportunity at H+R, Ethan saw it as an excellent chance to develop his professional skills, especially in building pathology, which is his main area of interest.
Areas of Practice
Ethan joined H+R in 2025 as an Intern Building Pathologist as part of an optional industry year within his undergraduate program. In a supporting role, Ethan primarily investigates damp and timber decay issues in both modern and heritage buildings and assists the team with the production of professional reports and drawings.
