Refurbishment of Piece Hall

During the month, H+R staff have been maintaining outreach and a presence at conferences and seminars.  Lectures have been presented to Masters students at Portsmouth University and collaborative research work continues at University College London and Oxford Brookes.  Lectures have also been presented by Matt Smith at the IHBC South East Region Day School and David Watt at UCL.  Jenny Brown also contributed to the Bats in Churches conference in London

Project work of interest has included the magnificent early medieval barn at Upminster for the Local Authority.  Forensic building investigations in support of insurers and clients were undertaken at St Swithun’s School outside Winchester and Farnham Memorial Hall.  H+R surveyed the complex of very fine barns and almshouses in Great Linford for Milton Keynes Council.  In addition, the usual range of investigative consultancy for refurbishment and re-development projects in Kensington and Chelsea was undertaken as well as for a listed 1930s purpose-built children’s nursery in Lambeth

Notable historic buildings that H+R have covered in the month include specialist investigation of ironwork at Cliveden and timber assessments at Syon Park

Finally, H+R are proud to have played a significant part in the magnificent refurbishment of the Grade I Piece Hall in Halifax ‘Yorkshire’s most important secular building’.  H+R supported the Architect (https://www.ldn.co.uk/) with a range of specialist services focussing on timber, retained moisture and masonry
