February 2024

After a gap of a couple of years it was interesting to return to Swansea.  Our work at the prison now being complete it was time to turn our attention to a terrace of houses, now scheduled for refurbishment. The houses were of interest due to Cambrian Place being one of Swansea’s older streets, its architecture dating from 1821, running from the Royal Institution (Museum) to the River Tawe and in close proximity to the town’s original proper dock

Also in the month, further surveys were undertaken to the Great Hall and Hogarth staircase at Barts Hospital as well as intensive input at a Stately Home in Wiltshire and a flying visit to Gibraltar to provide contract phase support to the American Naval Monument project

We would like to extend our congratulations to both ZMMA Architects for being chosen as winners of the Georgian Group’s Architectural Awards in the ‘Restoration of a Georgian Building in the Urban Context’ class for Gainsborough’s House in Sudbury.

Congratulations also to Giles Quarme Architects for being Commended in the same class for the restoration of the Henry VIII Gatehouse at St Barts.  H+R are pleased to have been involved with both projects www.georgiangroup.org.uk
